5. The Official Start To The Divas Revolution

In 2015 it became clear something had to change for the women in the WWE. The 30- second to 5-minute matches were no longer going to be acceptable to the audience. #GiveDivasAChance became a major trend on social media in February of 2015 after an embarrassingly short tag team match and for whatever reason, this was the boiling point. There was no going back. WWE through their developmental brand, NXT, had proven that women can have as good a match as men and can have compelling characters if given right time on the air to develop them and it was time to transport that mindset to the main roster.

On July 13th, 2015, Stephanie McMahon “officially” began the Divas Revolution when she brought up three of the most influential women on the NXT brand, Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, and Sasha Banks. This came on the heels of Paige asking the rest of the locker room to help her take down The Bella Twins and being rejected in the prior weeks. Paige was paired up with Charlotte and Becky and the rest, as they say, is history. It is very fitting that three women from NXT were called up to help Paige kickstart the revolution because she has quite the history with the yellow-roped rebellion herself…
