Not many people know this, but the United States Championship is older than the Intercontinental Championship. Unlike the latter title, it wasn’t created in WWE. It was created as a part of Jim Crockett Promotions and then went on to WCW until the company was bought out in 2001.

Prior to the 2000s and 2010s, the United States title was treated with an incredible amount of prestige, with NWA referring to it as the “United States Heavyweight Champion”. The title has seen greatness from the start, with Harley Race being the inaugural champion. Some of the most notable champions through the years include the likes of Wahoo McDaniel, Magnum T.A, Blackjack Mulligan, Greg Valentine and more.

These were the men who laid the foundation of the prestigious title and then there were those who had the title and took it to a whole other level. This list not only includes the United States champions under the WWE banner but also the veterans who helped make the title what it would become.

Here are the five greatest United States Champions of all time.
