The originally planned WWE title match for WrestleMania was supposed to be Ric Flair vs Hulk Hogan, but for a multitude of circumstances, that didn’t happen. Instead, Randy Savage would be the one to step up to the plate, taking on the Royal Rumble winner and then-WWF Champion Ric Flair.
The story was one of a personal grudge, with Ric Flair claiming that Miss Elizabeth was “his before he was Savage’s”. Using doctored photos and more, Flair did everything to get inside the Macho Man’s head. But when the day came, it was between Savage and Flair and they delivered in a fantastic World title-worthy match-up at WrestleMania 8. Savage would win the title in a great victory.
