Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa were signed to “Tier-2” WWE contracts, which meant that while they had to work WWE dates when called for, they would also be allowed to work independent dates. While not fully WWE superstars yet, Gargano and Ciampa formed a team known as #DiY and they skyrocketed in popularity in the NXT Tag Team Division.
They would run through the entire tag team division, even beating The Revival and becoming NXT Tag Team Champions. Their tag team established a unique bond that the fans got behind and their break-up the following year would lead to 2018’s hottest feud.
