Nick Jackson Says Wrestlers Deserve Health Insurance, Regular Breaks

The announcement of Roman Reigns dealing with leukemia has gotten professional wrestlers talking about some serious issues, namely that workers should have health insurance to deal with such ailments. Currently, WWE and the majority of promotions say that their workers are independent contractors rather than employees, and while their office personnel have great benefits, the same can’t be said for their in-ring talent. We recently wrote about the subject, so give it a read if you want to learn more about the struggle that wrestlers face.

Nick Jackson, who is one half of The Young Bucks is the latest superstar to chime in. Check out what he posted on social media below:

Several other professional sports, such as the National Football League, are unionized and have gotten player benefits built into their deals. For example, NFL players have an insurance plan that gives them and their dependents medical, dental, prescription drug, and EAP coverage. They also get tuition assistance, severance, a health reimbursement plan, an annuity program, 401K savings, and other benefits for former players. It’s worth noting that wrestlers are unionized in Mexico.

He also spoke on the need for breaks for talent:

With the constant schedule WWE carries, it highly reflects a need for an off-season for talent. The Young Bucks’ decision to march to the beat of their own drum has a lot to do with having better control of their already hectic schedule. This was evident too by the quick breather Matt Jackson took after the events of All In.
