Every January 4th, NJPW presents their biggest event of the year, their version of WWE WrestleMania, it is called Wrestle Kingdom and it is held inside of the spectacular Tokyo Dome venue.

This will be the 13th Wrestle Kingdom event and the last two were highlighted by spectacular performances by Kenny Omega, the current IWGP Heavyweight Champion. In 2017 he participated in a match for the championship against Kazuchika Okada which was raved about for the next 12 months. This past January, he participated in a match that nobody thought they would ever see where he took on WWE legend Chris Jericho in what was the first of several appearances in Japan for Y2J, who is now their Intercontinental Champion.

This year’s card is shaping up rather rapidly and New Japan Pro-Wrestling just announced more matchups on their website. The current card looks like this:

IWGP Jr. Tag Team Championshipship 60 Minute Time Limit

Yoshinobu Kanemaru & El Desperado vs. Roppongi 3K vs. BUSHI & Shingo Takai

IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championshipship 60 Minute Time Limit

KUSHIDA vs. Taiji Ishimori

Special Grudge Match 60 Minute Time Limit

Kazuchika Okada vs. ‘Switchblade’ Jay White

IWGP Intercontinental Championshipship 60 Minute Time Limit

Chris Jericho vs. Tetsuya Naito

IWGP Heavyweight Championshipship 60 Minute Time Limit

Kenny Omega vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi

It will be interesting to see how Okada fares in a match that isn’t headlining the Tokyo Dome card for the first time in a while, whether Tetsuya Naito beats Chris Jericho, where Kenny Omega ends up after this, and where the IWGP United States Championship winds up on this card. Current IWGP United States Champion Cody Rhodes does not have a match announced as of yet but has been teasing a new role for himself in wrestling coming very soon.
