Marty Jannetty On The Barbershop Window Incident & A Potential WWE HOF Induction

Sports Illustrated‘s Justin Barrasso caught up with Shawn Michaels‘ former Rockers teammate Marty Jannetty. The former WWE Superstar opened up about the 27th anniversary of the time his tag team partner Shawn Michaels sent him crashing through Brutus Beefcake‘s Barbershop window. The stunning betrayal ultimately broke up The Rockers and launched one of the most successful solo careers in wrestling history. Jannetty had a brief feud with Michaels thereafter, but never could get out of the enormous shadow that his former partner cast.

Jannetty talked to Barrasso about one of pro wrestling’s most memorable betrayals, “I was hoping that moment would last six months, let alone 27 years. I can’t believe it’s been so long. I think one of the main reasons that the Barber Shop window moment has lasted 27 years is that it looked real enough to believe it was real. I wouldn’t want to change that.”

The incident happened on January 12, 1992, but Jannetty believes that people may still be talking about it twenty years from now, “And in 20 years, they’ll still be showing the clip of the Rockers breaking up. What else will stand that kind of test of time?”

Jannetty also opened up about the potential of one day being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, “I would be grateful for that opportunity. I would be honored. That makes a big difference in the wrestling world.”
