Steve Austin did a great interview today with Dale Earnhardt Jr. on his “Dale Jr. Download” show. The 90-minute show covered many aspects, but one of the highlights was when the WWE Hall of Famer was asked about his beer bashing technique.
“I can’t remember exactly when we started it and I didn’t invent it,” revealed Austin. “Sandman was doing his version of it in ECW. It organically happened. I don’t know if I just grabbed a few beers out of the audience or they just figured I liked to drink beer so much. We had a cooler full of beer by the announce table. Sandman would crush them off his head, I’d just clack them together.”
He went on to state why none of the beer was ever wasted. “You ain’t in show business, you don’t get it. Half goes in, that’s for me. Half goes on, that’s for everyone else. It’s a win-win situation. You’ve got to have some showmanship. What if I had clacked two beers together and then sipped them?”
