More Details On NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff

Triple H held his post NXT TakeOver conference call last night with the media to answer questions. One of the hot topics of the night was the announcement of NXT UK: Cardiff taking place on August 31 of this year. This is just the second NXT UK TakeOver event in history. Coincidentally, the event falls on the same day as AEW’s All Out PPV. The events are not at the same time since UK is in a different time zone, but it was still an interesting point to many viewers. It is important to note that NJPW is also holding an event in London on the same day.

Triple H brought clarification to this last night by saying “Contrary to the buzz, the date of August 31 is a date we’ve had for a long time.” PWInsider is reporting that this date has indeed been set in stone for a few months now. Triple H continued by saying “That building has been booked with us long before WrestleMania. We just hadn’t announced because it wasn’t the right time. We didn’t want to announce something for the brand six months out. Tonight was the right night to do it. It has nothing to do with anybody else, and we will take place in primetime in the UK and be on in the afternoon in the US.”

Update On NXT TakeOver Production

NXT did not have the usual access they have to WWE production facets they would normally use in an event coordinated with a WWE PPV last night so there were some alterations made. Being a standalone NXT event, much of the backstage production setup was different from a normal WWE TV production and they also utilized a smaller lighting setup. PWInsider is reporting that Triple H said during the post-show media discussion that they were experimenting with different lighting techniques during the show and he’ll be reviewing them to decide which he’ll want to use down the line.
