ESPN caught up with NXT Champion Adam Cole after his big win at NXT TakeOver XXV. In the video interview, he discussed his goals as champion and why the belt is prestigious.
“People all over the world know of NXT’s potential,” said Cole. “When I say potential it sounds funny to a lot of people because of how big NXT already is, selling out arenas all over the country, doing events overseas, people all over the world know what NXT is, but I want it to be bigger. I want NXT to go to new heights and do things we’ve never done before. Part of that is me leading the charge. I’ve wanted this for a long time. Anyone that gets into this, they all want to be number one. I’ve known for a long time that it’s Adam Cole, and I’m happy it is.”
Cole then explained why the belt means so much to himself and the fans. “There’s two reasons why the NXT championship is so prestigious,” he explained. “First is what it represents. We’ve shown time and time again that we’re the best bell-to-bell sports entertainment, pro wrestling product on the planet. The other reason is the men that have held this championship. Samoa Joe, Finn Balor, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens. The best of the best have held this championship. You will get no more exciting match than the NXT championship match. I’m more than ready to carry the ship and take the brand to places it has never been before.”
