Last week, Ricochet, Braun Strowman, Bobby Lashley, Cesaro and the Miz all officially entered the race to become the number one contender for the United States Championship. This week, all of them met in an elimination fatal five-way to determine who would face the champion Samoa Joe at Stomping Grounds. Ricochet pinned the Miz to win the match.

Before the match, all five men blasted an unfortunate Elias with their finishing moves. Strowman dominated the first few minutes and quickly eliminated Cesaro. Lashley briefly gained control but Strowman eliminated him, too. Cesaro and Lashley attacked Strowman during the match; the Swiss Superman blasted Strowman with a Neutralizer. Ricochet capitalized and hit a 630 splash. He, with the help of Cesaro and Lashley, pinned Strowman.
Strowman threw Riochet over the top rope and took out his anger on Cesaro and Lashley. The match came down to Ricochet and the Miz. Both men gave it their all to become the number one contender. Eventually, Ricochet pinned the Miz after a 630 splash to win the match. Samoa Joe attacked Ricochet after the match but the new number one contender fought him off.
