CaZXL On His Relationship With Jon Moxley, Having More Freedom On The Indies

CaZXL and nZo recently spoke with Wrestlezone’s Dominic DeAngelo ahead of their appearances at Northeast Wrestling’s trio of events this weekend. CaZXL will face off with Jon Moxley at Northeast Wrestling’s event in Norwich, Connecticut.

CaZXL first had a run-in with Moxley at a recent Northeast Wrestling show in Jackson, New Jersey, and talked about how they came up together in WWE developmental. Cass talked about some of the advice Moxley (then Dean Ambrose) shared with him, and talked about how talent has more freedom on the independent scene.

“So I rode with Jon Moxley for two years when we were in FCW so he kind of educated me early on about the independents while we were still in WWE developmental. I got a lot of knowledge from him about the independents and didn’t perceive that I was going to need to use that information, but everything happens for a reason. So I lived with Jon Moxley for two years, was in developmental with him for three years, was on the main roster with him for two years and I had never faced him until that match at Six Flags. I teamed up with him before in tag matches, but I’ve never been across the ring from him which is crazy that we were in the same company for that long and had never faced each other, not even in a practice match in FCW.

So using information that he gave me about the independents and riding up and down the road with him and Juice Robinson in FCW and now getting to see them do their thing in New Japan, it’s cool to me and I’m sure Juice can probably watch my match with Jon Moxley and the one I’m going to have this Saturday and he’s going to have that same feeling like, ‘These are the guys that we used to share stories with. These are the two guys that I used ride up and down the roads with.’ So it’s cool. And as far as performing on the independents, the road is kind of the same as WWE,. You hop into that rental car after the show, you’re thinking about your match the next day or you’re thinking about what you could have done better in that match you had that night and you drive tot the hotel and you’re constantly critiquing yourself and thinking, ‘How can I develop better or how can I have a better match tomorrow?’

But as far as the difference between the independents and the WWE, you have a lot more freedom. You’re not on TV, you’re not hitting break spots, you don’t have to nail times, you don’t have the referees telling you you have to ‘go home.’ You have a lot more freedom, so you can experiment a little bit more on the indies. And you don’t have time constraints and you don’t have character constraints, so you can try something out and it sucked, and you’re like, ‘Well, not doing that again.’ Or you can try something out and it gets over and you’re like, ‘Alright, I’m going to try that again tomorrow and see if it works,’ and if it keeps working, then you stick with it. So there’s a lot more experimentation you can deal with on the indies which is really cool cause it can help you develop further as character and as a performer.”
