James Harris, aka Kamala, passed away on Sunday at age 70 and it’s being reported that it was related to a recent COVID-19 diagnosis.
According to Bleacher Report’s Jason King, he confirmed with Harris’ wife that he tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday and it’s believed that he contracted the disease during one of his numerous weekly visits to a dialysis center. It was also noted that he was hospitalized Wednesday night and seemed to be OK yesterday, but ended up going into cardiac arrest and passed away Sunday afternoon.
WWE issued a statement on the company’s official website:
“WWE is saddened to learn that James Harris, known to WWE fans as Kamala, has passed away at age 70.
Under the frightening face paint of Kamala, the 6-foot-7, 380-pound Harris battled the greatest Superstars in sports-entertainment history, including Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker and Andre the Giant.
He terrorized opponents and thrilled audiences in Mid-South, World Class Championship Wrestling, WCW and WWE until 2006.
WWE extends its condolences to Harris’ family, friends and fans.”
