Kenny Omega Retains AEW Belt, Good Brothers Attack Jon Moxley & Ally With Young Bucks

In the main event of AEW New Year’s Smash Night 1, Kenny Omega put his All Elite Wrestling World Championship on the line against former rival Rey Fenix.

Omega would take the match outside the ring and repeatedly hurt his smaller opponent against the floor and railing. The champion was clearly in control while Don Callis watched at ringside. However, Fenix would work himself back into the match and showed a familiarity with Omega due to their prior matches. Omega would wind up retaining the belt with a One-Winged Angel.

After the match, Callis got in the mic and said we’d witness the end of Fenix’s career. It was shown that Eddie Kingston’s group took out the rest of Death Triangle, and Omega was about to attack Fenix when former AEW Champion Jon Moxley came down with a barbed wire bat and evened things up.

IMPACT Tag Team Champions the Good Brothers would then appear and beat down Moxley, proving that Omega had the upper hand. A number of lesser AEW wrestlers would attempt to interfere but the heels easily held the ring. The Young Bucks would then come down into the ring and would ask their former Bullet Club members to stop. When several AEW stars tried to hurt Omega, the Bucks superkicked them and looked annoyed at the whole situation.

Omega and the Good Brothers would put up a too sweet, and the Bucks would join them to end the match.
