The Best Is Yet To Come: Current IMPACT Wrestling Run Has Given Jazz A New Drive

Jazz is thankful for her latest opportunity in the wrestling business.

Jazz recently spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard after she teamed with Jordynne Grace to earn a shot at the IMPACT Knockouts Tag Team Championship on February 23. Jazz and Jordynne will get their title shot at Sacrifice on March 13, and the veteran wrestler says she’s loving the experience with IMPACT so far.

“Coming out victorious is always a good feeling. That’s why I’m there, that’s why I’m with Jordynne,” she said, “and we’re just trying to show the world that we’re not two people thrown together. We are two people that are chasing those Knockouts Tag Titles [together], we’re coming for them.”

“I’m loving the experience,” Jazz added. “I love Jordynne, and there’s not another person that I think I could probably be compatible with besides Jordynne in IMPACT, as far as a tag team. We’re so much alike, she reminds me of myself about 10-15 years ago. She’s a no-nonsense kind of person in the ring, it’s the same way I’ve always been and I just think that the two of us being paired together, it’s a no-brainer. We’re a great tag team and we definitely are capable of becoming the new Knockouts Tag Team Champions.”

Jazz spoke about being paired with Jordynne and said it’s a great fit, noting that she’s wanted to wrestle as a tag team before, but never got the chance until now. Asked if she has pitched working in a team before, Jazz said she did but it never came to fruition. Now getting that chance with IMPACT, Jazz says she’s paired with one of the best wrestlers around and she had to take the opportunity when it was presented.

“I love her to death, I really do. I have so much respect for her, and always did, but now even more. If this is going to be the way that I end my career, I tell you what, there’s no other person that I’d rather tag with than Jordynne. And like you said, I’ve always been on my own. I’ve asked [companies], ‘Why won’t you let me tag with someone?’ That’s something I’ve never had the opportunity to do,” she noted, “ but now IMPACT has given me that opportunity and I’m most definitely going to take advantage of it. Like I said, we’re chasing those tag team titles and I don’t believe anyone over there can stop us from getting there either.”

Jazz announced her retirement from wrestling last October, telling Chris Van Vliet that several issues in her personal life led her to call it a career. She initially hoped to go on a retirement tour to end the year but the pandemic put a halt on those plans, and it looked like Jazz was done with wrestling. Now, a great opportunity combined with better health has given her a new outlook on life and the wrestling business.

“I’m feeling way better. When I made that announcement, I was having some issues but I think it was just because I was not doing anything [due to the downtime]. I’ve been doing this for so long, and now I’m back in the ring training, I’m back in the gym working out and it’s given me a new drive. I’m hungry again, you know? Most importantly, I’m having fun and enjoying myself and enjoying being part of IMPACT. I enjoy being in the back with the girls, the locker room,” Jazz said. “Everybody’s cool and this is probably the best place I could be right now.”

When asked if there’s a match she could point to that she’s most proud of in her latest chapter, Jazz said she’s improving each week but she’s just getting started and will only get better with time.

“I think each week I’m getting better and better, and I’m feeling better. I can’t pinpoint any specific match and I think the best is yet to come. I just want to thank the fans for continuing to support me and show love now, I’m just thankful. I’m thankful for them,” Jazz explained, “and thankful for all of the opportunities I’ve been given in this business. We’ll see what the future holds.”
