AEW’s Anthony Bowens Has Surgery, Expected To Miss 6-8 Weeks; Bowens Responds (Updated)

UPDATE: Bowens has since commented on today’s report, issuing the following response on Twitter:

What you’ve seen the last 4 months was me basically wrestling on 1 leg. I can’t wait to get back full throttle. Don’t worry though, there’s still plenty of Acclaimed content coming your way each week. I’m excited for everyone to get to know us/me a little better outside the ring.

Anthony Bowens’ return to All Elite Wrestling will have to wait a bit longer, as he recently had surgery to fix a knee injury.

PWInsider.com is reporting Bowens recently had knee surgery and he’s expected to be back in approximately 6-8 weeks. While other details in regards to the injury were scarce, WrestleZone reported on March 4 that Bowens had been dealing with a meniscus issue. It was originally believed that the injury wasn’t too serious, and Bowens could potentially return to AEW “in a month or so.”

Anthony Bowens’ status was first confirmed during Tony Khan’s appearance on AEW Unrestricted last week. Khan announced Bowens was out with a knee injury, but didn’t provide further details.

Bowens’ last match was on February 4, a tag team match pitting The Acclaimed against MJF and Chris Jericho. His tag team partner, Max Caster, was in singles action on the March 3 episode of Dynamite and competed at AEW Revolution in the “Face Of The Revolution” ladder match won by Scorpio Sky. Caster’s next solo outing will come against Dante Martin of Top Flight on the March 15 premiere of AEW Dark: Elevation.

AEW had audio issues with their broadcast this week but still had some very exciting developments following this past Sunday’s Revolution. Chris Jericho and the Inner Circle were destroyed by MJF and his new allies in FTR and Shawn Spears in a wild show-closing segment. Christian Cage made his Dynamite debut and teased a title match with AEW World Champion Kenny Omega.

NXT saw an incredible main event NXT Championship match with Finn Balor defeating the devious Adam Cole, who was attacked by his former brother Kyle O’Reilly. NXT introduced the new Women’s Tag Team Championships and even had a title change. Also as if that was not enough we are getting a 2-night NXT Takeover during WrestleMania week. WZ Wrap-Up covers all of this on this episode with Kevin Kellam and John Clark.
