Booker T believes that WWE is trying something with the supernatural storyline going down between Randy Orton, Alexa Bliss and The Fiend, but he personally books his wrestling under the “old school ‘Killer’ Tim Brooks” mindset.
On the latest episode of The Hall of Fame, co-host Brad Gilmore personally thinks that the storyline hasn’t been the most engaging, stating that he doesn’t think the storyline is directed towards a younger fanbase. He then asks Booker’s thoughts on the matter.
“People can say what they want to say,” Booker said, “But the way I’m to look at the Alexa Bliss/Randy Orton angle is ‘Okay, they’re trying something,’ okay? They’re trying to be able to find something that’s gonna appeal to somebody that may like that.
“For me, wrestling has been always been old school. ‘Hacksaw’ Jim Duggan,’Mad Dog’ Buzz Sawyer, ‘Killer’ Tim Brooks. Guys that just went out there and fought and mixed it up fisticuffs. We do the promo thing, we have the lead-up and whatnot and boom, we get the payoff at the PPV, the big show. It’s always been very simple to me as an adult watching professional wrestling,” and that’s what Booker believes the product should be primarily directed to with a few parameters in mind. He considers the following when orchestrating the ongoings of his own promotion, Reality Of Wrestling.
“I want to make sure I give that mother what she wants, I’m gonna make sure I give that father what he wants as well because I need him to be invested into the show and the kids, for me, it’s always been a somewhat PG-13 thing. It’s your discretion to whether you want to take your kids to watch the wrestling match. That’s the way I try to cater the show from that perspective. That way it’s all inclusive. It’s not vulgar enough to where you don’t want your kids to come and watch it, but it is a parental discretion move for me.”
“Wrestling has always been an adult themed business. Men fighting. When men are fighting normally adults are going to be watching and back in the day, they did. Of course wrestling was different. I know we’re in a different era, I know we’ve evolved, but to keep the eyes on the product, I don’t think that part of the business changed.”
