Sonya Deville’s Attempted Kidnapper Ruled Incompetent To Stand Trial, Sent To State Hospital Instead

In major update in the case involving Sonya Deville’s stalker, the defendant, Phillip A. Thomas will not be standing trial after all.

Raj Giri of Wrestling Inc. reports that Thomas was ruled incompetent to stand trial, so he will be transferred to a state hospital in Florida instead. Specifically, he is being sent to the Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee, Florida.

The case began on August 16, 2020, when Thomas attempted to kindap Daria Berenato, also known as Sonya Deville. After Deville received an extension of her protection injuction against the defendant, another hearing in October will determine the future of that order.

Previously, Thomas plead not guilty to several charges, including Armed Burglary of a Dwelling, Aggravated Stalking and Attempted Armed Kidnapping, among others. He had been a potential sentence to life in prison.

WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
