Authors of Pain Deny Rumors That They Are Retired From Wrestling (Updated)

Former WWE superstars Akam and Rezar, also known as the Authors of Pain or AOP, have reportedly retired from professional wrestling.

According to a recent report from Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, multiple wrestlers have attempted to reach out and bring the duo to various wrestling companies. However, nothing ever came of it, and it seems like the reason why is now known. The report mentions that the pair was brought up in discussions within All Elite Wrestling, but officials with the company were unsure if Akam and Rezar were a good fit.

New Japan Pro-Wrestling was also apparently mentioned as a potential landing spot for the pair, but the company was not bringing new talent over at that time, so nothing ever came through. WWE released AOP last year, and they haven’t performed much ever since. At this point, it wouldn’t be too shocking to see the duo attempt a comeback down the road, but right now, it seems Rezar and Akam are content with their decision to step away from the world of professional wrestling.

The Authors of Pain won the WWE RAW Tag Team Championship once, and they also emerged victorious in the 2016 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

Update: in a tweet the same day Fightful’s report started making the rounds, Akam (also known as Sunny Dhinsa) and Rezar shot down the idea that they  have retired. “Ain’t Done Yet Bitches,” they wrote separate tweets. An image of the Authors of Pain was attached to both tweets.
