Paul Wight Shares His Excitement For AEW’s Upcoming Tour, Highlights The Freedom Of AEW Dark: Elevation

AEW’s first stop on its return to the road in July is certainly going to be a big show, and Paul Wight is looking forward to it.

Wight recently spoke with Jim Varsallone  of the Miami Herald and expressed his excitement about AEW’s upcoming tour. He emphasized that it’ll be beneficial for the company’s younger performers to perform in front of live crowds again.

“It’s amazing to be back in front of the crowd,” We’ve all had to do what we’ve had to do this past year, everyone’s had to make sacrifices in their daily routines and their businesses and their lives.

“With all these things that we’ve had to overcome, it’s fantastic to be in front of a live crowd again, to be able to perform. It’s gonna be great for the younger talent to feel that energy from the live crowd.”

Wight also discussed his role as part of the AEW Dark: Elevation broadcast team. He highlighted the opportunity the show gives AEW’s young talent who otherwise might not appear on AEW’s primary program, Dynamite.

“It’s a chance for younger talent that might not be able to be featured on our main show on TNT, on Dynamite, it’s a chance for younger talent to introduce themselves to the audience. That’s one thing that they do on Elevation very well, is we usually do a lot of backstories on the talent. I’ve done some interviews with some of the talent, some sit-down interviews with them, to really understand their background, where they’re from, so then the audience has a better opportunity to evaluate how their relationship is with this talent.”

Wight then explained how AEW Dark: Elevation produces an environment that’s more flexible because the show doesn’t have the same limits Dynamite and other main shows do.

“They’re not so constricted as you are on a main television program, on a main TV [show],” said Wight. “Tthere’s certain time limits, and there’s commercials, and there’s things that have to be hit. So it’s a much more regimented format on a major TV, whereas [with] Elevation, there’s a lot more freedom for the talent to explore their characters.

“…One of the things I love about Elevation is unlike other programming, [with] Elevation, it’s really up to the talent to pick and choose. There’s no output or input, saying, ‘You have to do this, you stand here, you pose, you flex here. There’s none of that on Elevation. It’s just all up to the talent to go out and explore and find themselves and make mistakes and also make successes and learn and grow from that.
