The former star of the hit television series Arrow, Stephen Amell, leads a talented cast who will tackle the world of professional wrestling in the new series Heels that debuts later this month on STARZ.
Ahead of the premiere, actress Kelli Berglund sat down with WrestleZone to discuss her role on Heels and how she drew inspiration from the legendary Miss Elizabeth and current WWE Superstar Alexa Bliss:
“I pretty much started from ground zero when it came to learning about wrestling,” Kelli Berglund said. “So I just tried to absorb all the knowledge I could about all types of wrestlers and so in terms of like female wrestlers, obviously, I wanted to start with very famous valets because that’s what Crystal is even though she has aspirations to probably wrestle herself one day. So like Miss Elizabeth, who was a very famous valet, probably the most famous, and she ended up wrestling later on.
“I think there’s a lot of similarities between my character and someone like Alexa Bliss, in a way just like style-wise and character-wise in a way like the same color palette I don’t know I really admired her when I was watching her wrestling just her athleticism and this like tiny blonde girl who totally kicks ass, so those were just a couple of the women that I really enjoyed watching, but I just tried to watch as many wrestling matches as I could just across all spans.”
