Ruby Soho is a relatively new face in the world of All Elite Wrestling, but that didn’t stop her from earning a shot at Dr. Britt Baker‘s AEW Women’s World Championship tonight at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam. She won the right by emerging victorious in the Casino Battle Royale at AEW All Out. Unfortunately, despite an incredible match with Baker, Soho wasn’t able to come out on top, as AEW’s resident dentist took down her opponent to retain her title.
The challenger started off the match by taking control, as she slipped out of an early armbar attempt before the two stars began trading blows. Soho then dropped Baker with a knee before she hit a diving crossbody out of the ring to take down both Rebel and Jamie Hayter, who accompanied Baker to the ring.
Back inside the squared circle, Soho duked it out with Baker, who managed get the upper hand before she dropped the challenger with a big slam. Baker then hit another massive stomp on Soho, but the fan-favorite star kicked out, unwilling to stay down.
Things finally came to a head after Soho tried to put the match away, only to be distracted by both Rebel and Hayter. This interference allowed Baker to grab Soho from behind and trap her in the Lockjaw. Unable to do anything about it, Soho had no choice but to tap out, giving Baker the win and successful title defense.
