Io Shirai Previews WWE NXT WarGames, Calls Kay Lee Ray And Raquel Gonzalez ‘Big Threats To Win’

Io Shirai is ready for WWE NXT WarGames.

“The Genius of the Sky” will compete in her third match inside the eponymous structure on Sunday night, and she previewed her latest venture into the steel in an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated. She noted that her teammates, Kay Lee Ray and Raquel González are “big threats”, so with the former champions by her side, she seems confident heading into the show.

“I understand that each WarGames match will have a completely different feel depending on the participants,” said Shirai. “I do not think anyone here is a friend, but I know Kay Lee Ray and Raquel González will be big threats to win. As for Cora Jade, her ability is unknown, so I am looking forward to seeing what she can do in a match like this.”

The former NXT Women’s Champion also looked back on her shocking moment at NXT WarGames 2020, where she jumped off the top of the steel structure, with a trash canover her head, and landed on her opponents. Shirai noted that she had plenty of options, and she just wanted to do something “interesting.”

“It was not a particularly deep idea, and there were a lot of options in front of me,” said Shirai. “In my eyes, WarGames cages are very attractive and I wanted to do something interesting. It is almost like a child playing with her toy box.”

When asked if she has another jaw-dropping feat planned for Sunday, “The Genius of the Sky” refused to give it away, but she encouraged fans to tune in so they can see the action unfold.

“If I tell you a surprise, it will not be a surprise,” said Shirai. “With that said, there is no reason for anyone reading this to miss WarGames.”

Indeed, NXT fans won’t want to miss the special WarGames event Sunday night at 8 p.m. EST; it will air on Peacock/WWE Network. WrestleZone will have full coverage of the show while it airs, along with a live post-show podcast that will air on our Facebook, YouTube and Twitter right after the conclusion of the event.
