Tony Khan: Jade Cargill Is AEW’s Rookie Of The Year, She’s A Favorite To Win The AEW TBS Women’s Title

AEW President and General Manager Tony Khan clearly thinks highly of Jade Cargill, a breakout star who has dominated her way through the AEW TBS Women’s Championship Tournament.

During a recent appearance on Busted Open, Khan shared his belief that Cargill is the company’s Rookie of the Year in 2021; he emphasized her status as a remarkably “dangerous and powerful” wrestler while he previewed her semi-final bout in the tournament against Thunder Rosa.

“The crazy thing is, I think when you see Jade, you know, not only is Jade a beautiful woman, but also one of the dangerous and powerful competitors in pro wrestling,” said Khan. “And I think Thunder Rosa there at the desk is gonna have a handful in the semi-finals with Jade.

“I think she’s clearly the rookie of the year and I think she is definitely one of the favorites to potentially be the TBS Champion,” said Khan. “But you have to consider I think Thunder Rosa is absolutely one of the top wrestlers in AEW, and I think that they will have a great semi-final match.”

Cargill made her AEW in-ring debut at AEW Dynamite: The Crossroads in March, and aside from her loss in the Casino Battle Royale at AEW All Out, she has been undefeated. She often overpowers her opponents and picks up decisive wins, and she’ll likely hope to continue this trend in her next match. Before they face off in the ring, Cargill will face Rosa’s student, Janai Kai on the December 3 episode of AEW Rampage. Rosa will be on commentary for this contest, and Khan noted that Cargill doesn’t plan to let her commentate for long. Instead, she plans to pick up another dominant victory on Friday night.

“I think Jade, Jade is not paid by the hour, so she likes to get done with work quickly and to the back and get to the gym,” said Khan. “So it’ll be very interesting to see how that plays out.”

WrestleZone will have full coverage this bout and the entirety of AEW Rampage when it airs Friday at 10 p.m. EST.
