Buff Bagwell says he turned down the opportunity to be inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame with the nWo.
Buff Bagwell recently appeared on the Who The Fook Are These Guys? podcast and was talking about the different variations of the nWo in WCW and WWE before he claimed WWE asked him to be part of the group’s Hall Of Fame induction ceremony.
“They actually called me to do the Hall Of Fame thing. I was like — I’ll be honest with you, I said, ‘I don’t want to be part of a group going into the Hall Of Fame.’ It’d be like Brett Favre getting a [NFL] Hall Of Fame ring because of the Green Bay Packers,” Bagwell said.
When the host asked to clarify that this was for the nWo group induction in 2020 with Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash and X-Pac, Bagwell said he declined the invitation to join them and once again explained why he didn’t want to be included in a group induction.
“No. Sh-t no. Because it wasn’t me that got in with the nWo, that wasn’t me that was getting into the Hall Of Fame. It wasn’t the same. I said, ‘Hey guys, don’t take this wrong, please. I’d rather it be for something that I did, not something that the group did. Even though that’s cool, it really isn’t cool,” Bagwell stated. “It’d be like Brett Favre getting a Hall Of Fame ring for the Green Bay Packers, that ain’t cool. I mean, Brett Favre got a ring because he’s Brett Favre.”
Asked if he thinks there’s a chance that he could be inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame as a solo induction, Buff said there’s “not a chance” and noted that Lex Luger still isn’t in the WWE Hall Of Fame either. Bagwell said Lex’s story about coming back from adversity is inspirational, and it’s still a surprise that he hasn’t been enshrined in the WWE Hall Of Fame yet, either.
Buff Bagwell was a member of the nWo from November 1996 to March 1999, including the original, nWo Hollywood and nWo Elite variations of the group. The nWo (Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash and X-Pac) was inducted into the 2020 Class of the WWE Hall Of Fame; the ceremony took place in conjunction with the 2021 Class induction at WrestleMania 37 in Tampa.
