Serena Deeb Confirms Her Role As A Coach And Producer With AEW: ‘It’s Very Rewarding’

Former NWA World Women’s Champion Serena Deeb is one of the most respected veterans in AEW‘s women’s division, and she’s passing her knowledge on to the company’s young stars.

In an interview with Nick Hausman on The Wrestling Inc. Daily, Deeb described how she has been working as a coach and producer for the company. She has missed chunks of time with knee issues this year, but this role has enabled her to actively stay involved behind the scenes, and Deeb called the work she’s doing “very rewarding.” She also referenced her previous experience in a similar role with WWE; the company released her in 2020 due to budget cuts after she spent two years as a coach at the WWE Performance Center.

“…When I was kinda sitting on the sidelines, I stepped into the coaching role and the producing role and kinda the stuff I was doing before at the other company, you know,” said Deeb. “Yeah, so it’s like I’m helping them with their matches. I’m on headset sitting next to Tony, calling the matches, talking to the truck, like doing all of that. And I love that too. And you know what, that has like an exhilarating component in itself. Like especially when you really help and then you watch them go out there and they kill it, it’s like you feel like you’re part of that. It’s very rewarding.”

Deeb also discussed her enjoyment of coaching and helping people, though she also made it clear that she wants to keep wrestling because she has “unfinished business” in the ring.

“I really love coaching, I want it to a part of my life and my future,” said Deeb. “And I’m getting to a little bit of that at AEW as well, so that’s a part of me, for sure. I have just an innate desire to help people and [I have] kind of always been like that. So that, I really love it.”

In addition to her work behind the scenes, Deeb remains active in the ring. In recent weeks, she has been feuding with Hikaru Shida; she lost a hard-fought bout to the former AEW Women’s World Champion at AEW Winter is Coming.
