Sami Zayn Wins 12 Days Of Christmas Gauntlet Match, Earns Intercontinental Title Shot

Sami Zayn often argues that he’s the target of an extensive conspiracy against him in WWE. If that’s the case, he overcame the odds when he won the 12 Days of Christmas Gauntlet Match on a special Christmas Eve edition of WWE SmackDown.

In the spirit of the holiday season, WWE officials Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville previously announced that Zayn would compete in the gauntlet match; the winner of this bout would receive the gift of a shot at the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Hoping to regain the title he first won back at WWE Elimination Chamber 2020, Zayn had to overcome 11 other Superstars, and he pulled off the remarkable victory.

The order of eliminations was as follows:

  • Angel defeated Mansoor
  • Angel defeated Erik
  • Shanky defeated Angel
  • Ivar defeated Shanky
  • Sheamus defeated Ivar
  • Sheamus defeated Drew Gulak
  • Sheamus defeated Cesaro
  • Ricochet defeated Sheamus
  • Ricochet defeated Humberto Carrillo
  • Ricochet defeated Jinder Mahal
  • Sami Zayn defeated Ricochet

Zayn is now on a unique winning streak, as he has emerged victorious in two seasonal mathches in a row; before this triumph on Christmas Eve, he won the Black Friday Battle Royal in November.

The WWE Intercontinental Championship is currently held by Shinsuke Nakamura, a man Zayn once managed during his run with The Artist Collective.

WrestleZone will provide more details as they become available.
