Report: WWE No Longer Requiring Weekly COVID-19 Testing Despite Ongoing Surge

On Sunday, several of WWE‘s top stars, including the majorirty of the champions on the main roster, were pulled from their respective cards due to COVID-19 on a day when the company held two live events. Seth Rollins, one of the stars who did not make his scheduled appearance, tweeted “Merry Covid Christmas to me…”, seemingly confirming that he tested positive. This situation is reportedly ongoing, as several Superstars will not be in attendance for the RAW taping on Monday, either due to their own positive tests or as result of “an abundance of caution,” per Mike Johnson of PWInsider.

But Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select broke the news that this past weekend, despite the ongoing surge of COVID-19, largely due to the prevalance of the Omicron variant, WWE informed both Performance Center talent and the main roster that weeky COVID-19 tests are no longer required. Previously, the company had mandated twice-weekly testing, but per this report, WWE is taking a different approach now. Ross Sapp notes that it’s unclear whether a vaccination qualifer was linked to this shift; in other words, it’s not currently known if the new rule only applies to vaccinated individuals or the entire roster.

Ross Sapp also noted that the new policy “didn’t sit well” with several sources within the company, due to how significantly the COVID-19 surge is already affecting WWE.

WrestleZone will provide more details as they become available.
