Adam Pearce made the decision regarding Reigns’ challenger himself, and he waited all night to reveal the identity of the champion’s opponent. At the end of the show, Reigns was sitting in his locker room, and someone knocked on his door. The individual turned out to be Reigns’ former stablemate in The Shield, Seth Rollins.

Seth Rollins is a WWE RAW Superstar, but Pearce arranged an interpromotional match for Reigns’ first major defense of 2022. The two stars haven’t faced off much in recent years, but they were once engaged in the most heated rivalry in WWE following the downfall of The Shield.
