The Briscoes On Possibly Signing With AEW: If It Happens, Everyone Else Has To Take A Backseat

It’s fair to say that The Briscoes (Mark and Jay) are two of the hottest free agents on the open market.

The reigning GCW World Tag Team Champions are free agents, as Ring of Honor reportedly didn’t renew the contracts of its talent roster at the end of 2021. As 12-time ROH World Tag Team Champions, Mark and Jay certainly had an impressive résumé to back up their renowned in-ring skills. Their future remains unclear, but their online feud with FTR has led many fans to connect the dots and predict that the brothers will pop up in AEW sooner rather than later.

During a recent appearance on Busted Open Radio, when asked about potentially signing with Tony Khan’s promotion, Jay made it clear that if they become “elite,” everyone else will have to “take a backseat” because The Briscoes will quickly become must-see TV.

“That’s the thing, man. If it does happen, when and if, everybody else gonna have to take a backseat,” said Jay. “That’s just gonna be the way it is. Once we get in there, y’all know what we gonna do. So I mean, once they see, we do us and FTR, and we whoop [their] ass, they ain’t gonna have no choice but to put us on regularly on their television program.”

Despite their illustrious career as a duo, the brothers have never officially reached the next level and worked for a top promotion like WWE or AEW. Mark noted that they now have their best chance to do so, given their unexpected departure from ROH; he called the situation “perfect timing.” Both brothers made it clear that they would bring something entirely different to the table if they signed with AEW; Jay noted that he and his brothers are fighters.

Still, AEW’s stacked roster remains a point of criticism among fans and analysts alike, especially as the company continues to sign noteworthy names. Many of the promotion’s stars are struggling to consistently find TV time, but The Briscoes aren’t worried about this obstacle. Jay stated that they’re confident they would earn their way onto TV, though their ultimate priority is simply to provide for their families.

“Man I think once we make that splash, they gonna wanna see it again,” said Jay. “So you know I ain’t really too worried about that. I mean at the end of the day, we[are] providing for our families, so we gotta do what we gotta do. But I don’t think we’re gonna have to worry about riding the bench.”

The Briscoes’ future remains up in the air, but these comments will leave fans wondering what would happen if Mark and Jay became “All Elite.” For now, Mark and Jay are focused on defending the GCW World Tag Team Championship in an open challenge at “The WRLD On GCW” on January 23.
