Joey Janela Confirms When His AEW Contract Expires

Joey Janela is hopeful he’ll re-sign with AEW, but his current deal is set to expire soon.

Janela recently appeared on Rasslin’ with Brandon Walker and spoke about his work with GCW and AEW. In the case of the latter, Janela said that he’s waiting to see how things pan out now that his contract is almost over, but remains hopeful that he’ll re-sign with the company.

“You tell me, I don’t know either. I don’t even talk to them,” Janela said. “Yeah, I get a check but I don’t know what’s going on. There were some rumors — 4/30 my contract’s up. April 30th, so I don’t know what the f-ck is going on,” Janela said.

Walker asked if it’s safe to assume he’d like that contract renewed, and Janela said that he thinks it will, joking that if it doesn’t, he’ll look silly in hindsight.

“I think it will [get renewed]. If it doesn’t, I look like a f-cking idiot right now,” Janela added.

Janela previously confirmed on Barstool Sports’ My Mom’s Basement that he was signed to a three-year deal and it was set to expire in the spring. He told host Robbie Fox in November that he’s been stepping things up in recent months and said touring has helped him get back on track, adding that he was crossing his fingers that things would work out with AEW in 2022.

Janela has continued to make appearances on AEW programming, including a January 8 loss to Eddie Kingston on AEW Dark. His last match for the company was a January 15 loss to Lee Moriarty on Dark, and has since wrestled Matt Cardona and Dr. Wagner Jr. for GCW.
