EC3 Explains What He’s Looking For In New Talent For ‘Control Your Narrative’ Promotion

EC3 knows that it’s all about controlling your narrative.

Co-owner (alongside former WWE star, Adam Scherr) of the brand-new wrestling promotion Control Your Narrative, EC3 recently appeared on The Ringer’s MackMania Podcast to prompt the company’s next event on March 5.

EC3 would delve into what he’s looking for when it comes to the talent he’s bringing into the company… and it’s certainly not your ‘classic’ wrestling promotion.

“The big thing I’m looking for is talent that wants to create and be something different and kind of think outside of the wrestling bubble, but still understands that we’re in it and the basics of psychology and character development and how to make it work in 2022. What I’m looking for in new people is to engage me in their stories because I’m getting blown up non-stop and some people I know and some people I don’t, they’re sending me their YouTube videos and their matches and I’m like…you can do the moves, cool and they look alright, cool but I’m not going to know until I see you, be with you and talk to you, what you want out of this.

“I discover a lot of talents when going to independent wrestling shows, I’ll do seminars and it’s like ‘here’s how you wrestle…’ I kind of break them down as a performer and then as a person and then I do different things and those that stand out, those are always the first people that I’ll invite. So, discovering new people would be by doing these seminars and from going show-to-show live and each time that I’m on the road, I’m gonna have a seminar and they come by and you might be with us, you might not but you’re going to get something out of it.”

EC3 then went on to share a story about how engaging stories can be, noting that he had a positive interaction with a non-wrestler recently. EC3 says that this person’s story was very meaningful and he looks for people that are honest and open, and would rather tap into that than people just pay lip service and not follow through on things.

“What’s weird too is I got more out of some guy that’s never wrestled the other day. He just wanted to meet with me, so we went to a coffee shop in the area and he told me why he wants to wrestle one match as opposed to becoming world champion or blah blah blah, the same old shit. But he told me why he wants to wrestle just one match and I was so engaged into his story and I was like ‘we can make that happen.’

“So, that story means a lot more to me than the same bullshit that we hear that everybody says. The one thing I ask everybody as these seminars is what will you do, to do this? ‘Oh I’ll do anything’ and then it’s ‘well, will you do this?’ and it’s ‘well, I don’t know.’ It’s not about like will you kill this person for me? But will you leave your wife? No? Good! You shouldn’t but then some people say yeah and I don’t believe them because why would you do that? I like the people that are open and honest when proposed with crazy questions. What intrigues me the most is the ability to perform as human beings outside of the wrestling bubble then take that into wrestling and making it great.”

Control Your Narrative will hold its debut event on 3/5 at The Tin Roof in Orlando, Florida and will hold its second event on 3/31 at Gilley’s in Dallas, Texas which will be broadcast on TV on a network yet to be announced.
