Jonathan Gresham Wants To Reclaim ‘Best In The World’ Moniker By Facing CM Punk, Bryan Danielson

Jonathan Gresham wants to be known as the “Best in the World.”

Ring of Honor World Champion Jonathan Gresham recently sat down with Lucas Charpiot of VL Media to discuss a variety of subjects. When it asks what it means to him to be the current Ring of Honor World Champion during such an uncertain time for the company, Gresham said* it’s always been his dream to be the Ring of Honor World Champion and defend it all over the world.

“It’s always been my dream to defend this belt around the world. Throughout my career, I wanted to leave my mark on the world of wrestling by writing history,” Jonathan Gresham said. “I have to travel the world if I want to defend this belt. For many Ring of Honor wrestlers, the promotion’s temporary hiatus has been a major blow to morale. For my part, it has given me opportunities that have allowed me to accomplish what I have always dreamed of doing. Of course, it’s not ideal to be fired from your job, but I adapted to the situation.

“I’m lucky to be able to do some things that I couldn’t have done without this break. From now on, I can wrestle for wXw or Progress Wrestling, something that I could not have done with my exclusive contract. From now on, I have the opportunity to travel anywhere to face the best wrestlers on the planet, and not just those present within Ring of Honor. I am lucky to maintain this legacy left by wrestlers like Samoa Joe or Bryan Danielson, who also defended this belt around the world.”

When asked if there was anyone specific he wanted to defend the Ring of Honor World Championship again, Gresham says it’s not about a specific title defense as much as it is about wanting to fight other wrestlers who consider themselves the “Best in the World” like CM Punk and Bryan Danielson of All Elite Wrestling.

“Not necessarily for a title defense. To be the best wrestler in the world, I have to face all the people who claim to be too,” Jonathan Gresham said. “I have already said it in interviews several times: to restore Ring of Honor’s image, my objective is to fight against Bryan Danielson and CM Punk. They both took on the nickname “Best in the World” when they were world champions in the promotion. My goal is to reclaim the honor of this nickname to assign it only to the current Ring of Honor champion.”
