Wardlow: ‘I Have The Star Power That Hasn’t Been Seen In This Business In Over A Decade’

Wardlow believes he has what it takes to be a star in the wrestling business.

“Mr. Mayhem” is often seen as MJF’s muscle, but he’ll have the chance for a major breakout moment at AEW Revolution, where he’ll compete in the Face of the Revolution Ladder Match. A win in this bout could take the powerhouse to the next level on a roster that’s full of world-class talent.

In an interview with Nick Hausman of Wrestling Inc., Wardlow expressed his firm belief that he can be an “absolute superstar”, especially if he ever parts ways with MJF.

“If Max and I ever come to terms and the contract is out of the picture, and him and I ever go separate ways at some point and I do become a part of AEW officially, I truly believe every single tool that makes an absolute superstar of a professional wrestler,” said Wardlow. “I truly believe I have the star power that hasn’t been seen in this business in over a decade.”

Wardlow elaborated by stating that while he’s very fortunate to be where he is, he’s also confident that he believes the opportunities he’s already had. He also noted the competition, both in AEW and beyond, that he’s facing in his quest to reach the top of the mountain.

“It’s one of those things where it’s like of course I’m here, but I also feel very, very blessed and lucky to be where I’m at,” said Wardlow. “Like I said earlier, I truly believe I have the skills and the ability to be at the top of this business. But at the same time, there’s so much competition. There’s such a large roster, there’s so much talent.

“So it doesn’t matter how great I think I am. Just to be in a position that am and be on TV almost weekly, I am absolutely blessed to be where I am with so much talent, not even just in AEW, but I mean in wrestling in general, there’s so much. So to be where I’m at, I think I deserve to be here, but I’m very lucky to be here.”

To preview the Face of the Revolution Ladder Match, “Mr. Mayhem” described how he’s qualified for the bout because his fandom of Jeff Hardy prompted him to jump off ladders when he was a kid. He also referenced his previous experience with ladder matches and promised to surprise fans with his agility on Sunday night.

“I am oddly qualified for this match and experience,” said Wardlow. “I grew up a very big Jeff Hardy fan, so I grew up on ladders. I mean I was in my backyard climbing and jumping off ladders my whole life. And I’ve been in a ladder match before, that I was victorious. And it’s one of my favorite matches I had on the indies.

“…So I know people don’t expect the big man to be qualified for a ladder match, but people are gonna be a little surprised how fast I move up that ladder.”

Wardlow will face Christian Cage, Orange Cassidy, Powerhouse Hobbs, Keith Lee, and Ricky Starks in the ladder match at AEW Revolution. The winner will earn a shot at the TNT Championship, which is currently held by Sammy Guevara.
