New NWA National Heavyweight Champion Crowned At NWA Crockett Cup

Jax Dane won the NWA National Heavyweight Championship at NWA Crockett Cup on March 20 by defeating Anthony Mayweather.

The defending champion initially defeated Dane in their scheduled contest. But “The Dane Event” brutally attacked Mayweather’s knee with a steel turnbuckle after the bout before he cashed in the title shot he earned as a member of the winning team of the Champions Series. He then defeated the wounded Mayweather to win the gold.

Here’s how the match played out, courtesy of our play-by-play coverage:

NWA National Heavyweight Championship: Anthony Mayweather (c) vs. Jax Dane

Mayweather takes Dane to the mat right away, forcing the referee to separate them. Dane responds by tossing Mayweather to the mat once they’re both back to their feet. The fight spills to the outside. Mayweather dives onto Dane on the floor, but Dane takes control with a chop block back in the ring. The challenger slams Mayweather’s leg into the ring post. “The Dane Event” continues to target Mayweather’s leg. The champion rallies with a spinebuster. He tries to slam Dane, but his knee gives out. Dane again attacks the knee. Mayweather catches Dane with an arm-bar out of nowhere and forces him to tap.

Medical officials help Mayweather out of the ring, but Dane attacks the champion and the security guards. He brings Mayweather back to the ring and blasts his bad knee with a spare turnbuckle. Dane grabs the referee and reveals that he’s cashing in his Champions Series title shot.
