Samoa Joe wants to help build the future of All Elite Wrestling by helping the company find the best young stars that are on the rise.
Joe worked in the talent scouting department for WWE before his second release, and he’s somewhat continuing his work in a similar role with AEW, as he explained during an appearance on AEW Unrestricted.
“Yeah, in WWE, I was heavily involved in the scouting department. Now I kinda keep those eyes open and those eyes out there for a different purpose, obviously. You wanna have the best up and comers come work with your company. If I can help facilitate that for AEW, I’d be more than happy to.”
Joe went on to described how he learned a lot from William Regal, who showed him to succeed in the industry. He went on to say that he wants to do the same thing for the next generation.
“I’ve learned to appreciate it and like it,” said Joe. “Because of men like William Regal. They’re in the height of their career, took time to give me advice and not just show me a path. It wasn’t a , I’ll put on a word for you, I’ll do this. It was like no here’s the path, if you choose to follow it, you can find success. It’s just something that’s kind of missing in the industry as a whole. There’s just not a lot of guys who have that experience, kind of going back and having honest discussions with dudes about what the industry is like and what this business really is, breaking down the numbers. Not just kind of being grandiose and bragging about how you’re awesome and how much you did and this and this.
“Every empire is built with a plan. And the problem is we don’t take about the plan enough. We just talk about the empire. I’d like to change that. Any time I can offer a word of advice to somebody young and up and coming, and wanna put themselves in the best possible position to succeed, which I think it’s vitally important to anybody in our industry is putting yourself in a position to be successful, not just waiting for something to break or happen. [There’s] a big asset bank of our knowledge which isn’t shared enough and I’d like to see that happen more.”
Joe recently won the ROH World Television Championship, and he will compete in the Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament.
