Powerhouse Hobbs On How He Can Take The Next Step In His Career: I’ll Have To Break Out On My Own Eventually

Powerhouse Hobbs knows he’ll have to break out on his own to reach the next level in All Elite Wrestling.

For most of his AEW career, Hobbs has been a member of Team Taz. While he gets some chances to shine in singles matches, he remains focused on the group. Right now, he and Ricky Starks are chasing the AEW World Tag Team Championships, but as someone who has a lot of potential, Hobbs could climb up the card sooner rather than later.

During an appearance on the Wrestling Perspective Podcast, when asked about what he needs to do to rise into the world title picture, Hobbs stated that he’ll eventually have to step out on his own and show a different side of himself. But for now, he made it clear that he’s having fun.

“There’s gonna be a point where I’m gonna have to step away on my own,” said Hobbs. “Who knows when that will happen? I just think that next step for me is, I think what’s gonna come up for me is I’m just gonna have to show a whole new kickass different style. You can tell I’m having fun in the ring and when I got someone in a hold and I’m kicking the s—- out of them, so I’m having fun. I don’t know what that next step is gonna be. It’s just gonna happen.”

Hobbs went on to explain that he wants to win all the gold in AEW, and once he’s a champion, his challengers will have quite a hard time taking the title from him.

“The path right now is for Ricky Starks and I to beat the living hell out of Jurassic Express and take those tag titles,” said Hobbs. “That’s the goal right now. But eventually I will be TNT Champion. Personal goal of mine is being the first African-American AEW World Champion. And any title I get, I’m gonna, I know how to fight and I know what it’s like to starve and struggle.

“And any title I get, it’s gonna be hell for anybody to take that away from me. But I plan on being a big name and being around for a long time. That’s always been my goal, ever since I became a professional wrestler. I want people to remember me. And if they’re like, ‘Oh who’s the baddest MF?’ I want my name to come up.”
