Report: Colt Cabana Signs New AEW Contract, Currently ‘Earmarked’ For ROH Relaunch

Colt Cabana is still Elite, but it looks as if a return to Honor is in his future.

According to a new report from F4WOnline.comColt Cabana has signed a new contract with All Elite Wrestling and he’ll be working for Tony Khan’s Ring Of Honor relaunch when it returns. It was noted by F4W’s Dave Meltzer that Cabana’s new contract is something the Young Bucks both pushed for, but terms of the new deal were not reported.

Cabana regularly worked for Ring Of Honor between 2002 and 2007, and again from 2016 until 2019. He signed full-time with AEW in February 2020, where he’s most known for his appearances with the Dark Order.

Cabana worked the ROH Supercard Of Honor pay-per-view in April (under Tony Khan’s ownership), picking up a win over Blake Christian on the ‘Zero Hour’ portion of the show. Cabana has not wrestled for AEW since an AEW Dark taping on March 4, a tag team loss (with Alan ‘V’ Angels) to The Butcher And The Blade. During his absence, he has appeared on NBC’s Young Rock as the Brooklyn Brawler and continued to work select matches on the independent scene, including for WrestlePro, Freelance Wrestling and Pennsylvania Premiere Wrestling.

Tony Khan addressed his purchase of Ring Of Honor during his AEW Double Or Nothing media call on Thursday afternoon. Khan explained why he used a separate LLC to purchase ROH as well as why he feels like it won’t be “secondary” to AEW in any way.

“I just jumped on it, honestly,” Tony Khan said. “Me personally, It was a unique opportunity. I was on the phone, and I heard that if I paid a certain price, I could buy a Ring of Honor then in there, and I didn’t want to complicate it or make it any more difficult than it was going to be. I just said I’ll do it right then and there, me personally. It’s easy for me to do that. I didn’t have to go through any, you know — I guess the way I looked at it at the time was the price was right. The opportunity was right. And I was looking out for AEW.

“I think I’m always thinking of AEW. And in doing so, I think this transaction, it makes sense for Ring of Honor to be its own brand and stand on its own feet. Not saying Ring of Honor is a subsidiary of AEW or secondary in any way. I think that’s one of the things that made Ring of Honor Supercard a really compelling event is you didn’t feel like it was a developmental show or it was a secondary show. You had great matches on the card. It was a very well-received card. It’s been one of the best-reviewed shows of the year critically and commercially; It was a massive success.”
