Mike Bailey Previews The Ultimate X Match At Slammiversary: It’s A Complete Honor, I Want The Title

As his nickname suggests, “Speedball” Mike Bailey is one of the most electric athletes in the wrestling world, so he’s a natural fit for the Ultimate X match.

This stipulation bout is one of the most legendary in TNA/IMPACT Wrestling history, as plenty of renowned stars have competed in it over the years. For this reason, Slammiversary will mark the promotion’s 20th anniversary by honoring its past with another Ultimate X match, among other buzzworthy contests. Bailey will face Ace Austin, Jack Evans, Kenny King, Alex Zayne, and Trey Miguel in the bout, which will be for the X-Division Championship.

In an interview with SteelChair Mag, Bailey previewed the momentous match by expressing his love for the X-Division and noting that it’s “crazy” he’ll be challenging for the gold on such a meaningful night.

“Everything I’ve been doing since I debuted with Impact Wrestling in January has been completely overwhelming, and I have still not processed that, within 6 months of my debut, I’ll be in Ultimate X for the X-Division Championship at Slammiversary on the 20-year anniversary,” said Bailey. “It all feels like a lot. It’s a lot of pressure, but it’s also, of course, a complete honor. Of course, it’s going to be a historic event, and I wouldn’t be in Impact Wrestling if I didn’t have so much love for the X-Division. The X-Division Championship has definitely been my goal for a long time, to get a shot for that at Slammiversary for the 20th anniversary is absolutely crazy.”

Bailey also made it clear that he wants to face Ace Austin, the X-Division Champion. They’ll share the ring during the multi-man contest on Sunday night, and depending on the outcome, they could clash again at some point soon.

“For obvious reasons, it would be Ace Austin,” said Bailey. “I have again great respect for Ace. I’m sure he’s going to be even better after he’s coming back from Japan, but he’s the X-Division champion, and I want the X-Division Championship.”
