Report: Update On MJF, Talent Believes He Was Set To Meet With Tony Khan (Updated)

Many fans are curious about MJF‘s status in the aftermath of the AEW star’s controversy-filled weekend, and a new update has offered some information in that regard.

On May 28, “The Salt of the Earth” no-showed the AEW Double or Nothing Fan Fest ahead of the pay-per-view; in recent months, reports have suggested that he’s frustrated with his contract, and he has openly teased that he’ll sign with WWE once he’s a free agent in 2024. Rumors swirled when a plane ticket out of Las Vegas was reportedly booked for MJF after the Fan Fest, and he wasn’t seen at the venue for Double or Nothing a few hours before the show. But he opened the event by competing in his scheduled match with Wardlow, who promptly squashed him and sent him out of the arena on a stretcher.

According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, AEW sources believe that MJF, who didn’t fly home, was set to have a sit-down meeting with company president Tony Khan, but it’s unclear whether this is a work. Ross Sapp also noted that it has not been confirmed whether MJF’s exit on a stretcher was a precursor to him taking some time off.

The report went on to confirm that MJF’s no-show on Saturday did not begin as a work, but it remains unclear where it currently stands. Ross Sapp stated that MJF’s frustration has not subsided, while Khan has reportedly told talent that he’d be willing to pay MJF like a top star.

As previously reported, AEW has made attempts to kick-start contract talks, but they have been “blown off.” Finally, Ross Sapp wrote that MJF told others that he believed the situation would “come to a head”, likely during Double or Nothing week, given the extended period of being in the same area as Khan.

WrestleZone will provide more details as they become available.

Update: Ross Sapp later reported that the meeting between Khan and MJF was scheduled for 8 p.m. on Monday.
