Clarification On Stephanie McMahon’s Absence From WWE, Recent Business Insider Feature

Fans continue to speculate about Stephanie McMahon, as WWE‘s Chief Brand Officer recently announced that she will be taking some time away from the company.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter previously reported that McMahon will return after this leave of absence, which came out of nowhere to most within the company. It had been noted that she wanted to focus on her family, as she previously had to pick up some of Triple H’s responsibilities while he was recovering from his cardiac event and related health issues. Business Insider reported that Vince McMahon was seemingly responsible for Stephanie’s exit, but this wasn’t confirmed. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer subsequently reported that Stephanie decided to step away, rather than being forced out.

In an update, according to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, some members of the company, who had been involved before Nick Khan joined WWE, made it clear that Vince didn’t push Stephanie out. However, some new hires noted that there were performance issues, though these points of improvement were not responsible for her exit; either way, Stephanie reportedly made the decision herself.

Ross Sapp also confirmed the departure of  WWE Head of Global Sales & Partnerships Claudine Lilien; he wrote that she was let go, as she was not viewed as a great hire. He also cited sources who noted that there were a number of “areas of improvement” in the department. For example, the company would like to sell sponsors on a long-term basis, whereas it’s currently handled on a single-show deal.

WrestleZone will provide more details as they become available.
