Nick Mondo Wants To Make A Full-Length Action Film With Jon Moxley

Nick Mondo gets candid on his work and the current landscape of pro wrestling.

“Sick” Nick Mondo is best known for his time spent in the ring for CZW. Post-retirement, though, he’s been rather active in producing, directing, and acting in and out of the wrestling world. In a new interview with Ignacio Grifol of Solowrestling, Mondo opened up about a number of topics.

GCW is often compared with ECW and the promotion has seen plenty of success in recent years. Mondo praised GCW for their well-rounded product and called it the most exciting indie promotion today.

“ECW in the 90’s generated a feeling of excitement that I never thought I’d experience again in wrestling. We tried, when I was in CZW, but I don’t think we matched the overall creativity and excellence of ECW. GCW, I’m happy to say, has come very close to what ECW was doing in the 90’s. Just like ECW, GCW brings a well rounded product with athleticism, hardcore wrestling, and new ideas that nobody ever saw coming. They are the most exciting independent company in the world right now, in my opinion.”

What does Mondo think about GCW mainstay Nick Gage’s success?

“Seeing Nick Gage come back from prison, reinvent himself and generate a worldwide following was remarkable to see. And whoever imagined we’d see him wrestle Chris Jericho on AEW TV? I got to work with Nick Gage on a documentary project last year, and it was a great time. I am really proud of Gage’s success.”

Mondo also detailed his work on STARZ’s pro wrestling TV series, Heels,

“I was one of the stunt wrestlers in season one of Heels. I was very fortunate to be a part of that show, thanks to my friend Luke Hawx. Luke was the main stunt coordinator for the wrestling scenes and action on that show, and he helped me get a small part as a stunt wrestler.”

In addition to his on-air work, Mondo directed Jon Moxley’s “prison break”video after he left WWE. Mondo credited Moxley with the idea and said he’d love to make a full-length movie with him one day.

“Jon approached me about making the “re-branding” video once he left WWE. It was Moxley’s idea to be in prison in the video, and my idea to have him bust through a cinderblock wall. Jon is one of my favorite people to work with. He and I have collaborated on a bunch of shorter projects. My big dream right now is to make a full length action film with him. I’m trying to make that happen!”
