Nia Jax Reflects On Competing In The Men’s Royal Rumble Match, Relationship With Vince McMahon

Former WWE Superstar Nia Jax will likely go down as the only woman to ever work both Royal Rumble matches on the same night.

Nia Jax was the latest guest on the Wives of Wrestling podcast to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about being able to compete in the Men’s Royal Rumble match, Jax spoke about being a “Vince girl” and how big of a deal it was to be in both Rumble matches on the same night.

“Well, I call myself a Vince girl, right? Like whatever he wants, whatever match he wants to put me in, whatever opponent, whatever kind of weird gimmick he wants me to do. I’m just like, Yeah, whatever you want. Like, it’s my job. I was like, Yo, whatever you like. And I think they were just wanting to spice up this Rumble, make it different. And Johnny [Ace] said he suggested it to Vince, and Vince loved it.

“And, I mean, it was crazy because it wasn’t just like, the being in the men’s match. I was in both Rumbles in the same night. Somebody said that to me that night. I got obliterated that night in the freaking hotel. Everybody was buying me a shot, and I was all hammered. Rey [Mysterio] was freaking getting me wasted. Shane McMahon. Oh, man. Anyways, we were sloppy messes, and somebody was like, did you know you were in both tonight? And I was like, *gasp* I was, shit. You know, when you’re in it, it’s just a cool moment, and like you’re just trying to soak it all in, and then when you get past it, you’re honored that they thought of you to be in that position. You know what I mean?

“Like I always had a good relationship with Vince like we chatted, we laughed, we joked, and so I even went up to him and just said, I’m very grateful that you thought of me for this. And he was like, ‘of course. I want to see you get your ass kicked,’ as you know, jokingly, Vince is, but it is a huge opportunity because if you don’t get put in that position, you’re easily forgettable. People can go up and be on the main roster and have a couple of matches here and there. But if you don’t get put into some seriously cool storylines or matches, you kind of get forgotten. So it was it was a super cool moment, and I was super honored.”

During the Men’s Royal Rumble match Nia Jax took a variety of moves, including Rey Mysterio’s 619 and Randy Orton’s RKO. When asked if there were any other moves she would have liked to take from a man, she name-dropped Stone Cold Steve Austin and Brock Lesnar for entirely different reasons.

“Oh, of course. I mean, with Stone Cold Steve Austin, you want to get the Stunner because everybody wants to do the sell; you want to do the crazy sell. Of course, Stone Cold, I feel like that’s just number one for me,” Nia Jax said. “I’ve always wanted to be legit, picked up and slammed, like a Brock. Something like that like I was, I was like, dude, I’ll go get thrown around by Brock. How fun would that be? Just because I did the throwing around. I did the picking up. It happened once, Tamina picked me up, and Charlotte picked me up. It’s just, but you know, never like thrown around. Of course. I’m a bigger girl. I’m super heavy. It would have to take somebody extremely strong, but I’m like, Brock could freakin toss me around like I’m nothing. Let’s go.”
