Report: Vince McMahon ‘Filtered’ During Recent WWE Creative Meetings

More details about the inner workings of WWE‘s previous regime have come to light in the aftermath of Vince McMahon‘s retirement.

On July 22, the former WWE Chairman, CEO and head of creative called it a career at the age of 77. Since then, Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan have been named co-Chief Executive Officers. On July 25, Triple H was announced as the new head of creative.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightfulreports that, following Mr. McMahon’s retirement, sources have reached out and described the creative process within the company under his leadership. Several creative writer’s assistants essentially had to “filter” McMahon, as they needed to know what to avoid writing for the former chairman while they were taking notes for him. Ross Sapp cited cases of McMahon saying things that could come off as insensitive or offensive. He was also said to responsible for “Oh god, what did he just say?” moments.

Other stories included the former chairman calling people the wring name or using socially unacceptable terms, even ones that he personally wouldn’t have allowed on WWE TV. Ross Sapp went on to cite a former production assistant, who stated that, while McMahon was on the headset, he would sometimes “blow up at the most ridiculous things” and behave as if something ruined an angle, even if it was “far past its expiration date.”

Sources in and around WWE creative were said to expect some change with Triple H in charge; specially, there’s a feeling that he’ll be able to recall what the company has and hasn’t repeatedly done. These sources noted that McMahon often booked things that they believed he didn’t remember doing multiple times, even when people around him would inform him otherwise.
