Gunther wants to elevate the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
The man once known as WALTER arrived on WWE SmackDown in April, and he quickly dominated the opposition on his way to winning the gold on the June 10 episode.
In an interview of Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, “The Ring General” emphasized his goal to turn the title into the top prize in WWE.
“I want to take this title and make it the greatest prize to conquer,” said Gunther. “That’s the approach I had with the NXT UK Championship. The champion makes the title. That’s what I am planning to do here.”
The champion also vowed to give the title the prestige it deserves and expressed his wish to step into the ring with the best.
“I am going to give this title the prestige it needs and make it the greatest prize in wrestling,” Gunther said. “I would like to wrestle John Cena and anyone else who is considered elite. I didn’t come here to be mediocre. I came here to be in the ring with the best.
“I’m just getting started. I’m very excited for this journey.”
