Liv Morgan On The Finish For Her SummerSlam Match Against Ronda Rousey: I Hated It

Liv Morgan says she did not care for the finish to her match with Ronda Rousey at WWE SummerSlam.

At WWE‘s “Biggest Party of the Summer”, Morgan defended the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Rousey. In the end, the challenger made the champion tap out, but her shoulders were down, so the referee counted the pin and rewarded the win to Morgan.

Speaking with Ariel Helwani of BT Sport, Morgan commented on the way some fans booed her in the aftermath of the victory. She noted that some of them may have felt like she let them down, and while some fans may have wanted a “solid” win, the referee’s decision is final.

“It was interesting. It was kind of something that I halfway expected because I feel like, in a way, the fans felt like I let them down. I feel like the ending of the match, because of its controversy, they felt indifferent. They wanted me I think to get a clean, solid win, but I was facing ‘The Baddest Women on the Planet’, who has years and years and years of mixed martial arts experience. I outlasted two arm-bars and I did my absolute best in that very moment, and so they weren’t very happy with the conclusion of the match. But at the end of the day, the referee’s decision is final and I am still SmackDown Women’s Champion and the only woman in WWE to beat Ronda Rousey twice.

When asked why the fans booed her specifically, the champion noted that they may have felt like she gave up.

“Because I tapped out as the finish took place, and I think to them, it felt like I gave up,” Morgan said.

Helwani then asked Morgan to describe how she felt about the finish itself, and she made it clear that she “hated” it.

“I hated it,” Morgan said. “[laughs] I hated it. It’s not the way I would have hoped for it to go, but like I said, at the end of the day, I’m still SmackDown Women’s Champion, and I guess that’s all I genuinely really care about.”
