SmackDown Women’s Title Match Set For WWE Extreme Rules

Ronda Rousey is in line for another title match at WWE Extreme Rules.

The September 9 edition of WWE SmackDown featured a five-way elimination number contender’s match to determine the next challenger for SmackDown Women’s Champion Liv Morgan. That match saw Xia Li vs. Natalya vs. Lacey Evans vs. Sonya Deville vs. a recently reinstated Ronda Rousey.

Natlaya was eliminated first, followed by Li and Evans taken out by simultaneous submissions by Deville and Rousey, respectively. Deville and Rousey engaged in an MMA-style battle during the closing minutes before Rousey won with a leg lock. Rousey will now challenge Morgan at the Premium Live Event.

Backstage after the match, Shayna Baszler congratulated Ronda Rousey on her win. Rousey consoled Baszler following her loss at WWE Clash at the Castle while ensuring revenge is right around the corner.

Morgan beat Rousey to win the title by cashing her Money in the Bank contract on the champion at the namesake event on July. She successfully defended the title against Rousey at WWE SummerSlam due to a controversial decision; Rousey made Morgan tap out, but her own shoulders were down, to the referee awarded the win to Morgan. Rousey subsequently attacked the referee, and she was both fined and suspended for her actions.

WWE Extreme Rules 2022 will emanate from Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, October 8. WrestleZone will have complete coverage of the event as it airs.
