Our WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event results for tonight include The Judgment Day’s JD McDonagh taking on Danhausen in a No Disqualification Match, Brie Bella and Paige defending the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships against Fatal Influence, Bayley clashing with Lyra Valkyria, WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns and New York Knicks’ Jalen Brunson appearing together for a segment, and Undisputed WWE Champion CM Punk and Cody Rhodes teaming up against Gunther and Sami Zayn. If Sami and Gunther win, the Undisputed Championship Match at SummerSlam will be a fatal four-way. Here’s our review and grades for tonight’s show, live from Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York.

Pre Show:
United States Champion Trick Williams vs. The Laredo Kid
Williams floors Kid with a shoulder block. Kid surprises Williams with a missile dropkick. Kid works over Williams’ leg. Leg lariat by Williams. Williams slaps Kid about the back of the head before sending him into the corner. After a nasty Irish whip, Williams nets a two count. Williams lifts Kid for a delayed vertical suplex. Kid attempts to counter with a small package, but Williams deadlifts Kid into a suplex. After escaping Williams’ corner punches, Kid lands a stiff elbow followed by a middle rope corkscrew attack. Kick out by Williams.
Kid lands a PK and jaws to the crowd. Leaping neckbreaker by Williams. Williams lands a flurry of strikes. Kid runs into a flapjack. Williams kips up and lands a Trick slap! Trick stomps by Williams. Kid reverses the floatover bookend with a roll up. Williams kicks out and sends Williams out of the ring. Kid dives off the ring post and crushes Williams with a senton. Kid sends Williams back into the ring and misses a corkscrew moonsault off the top. Williams blasts Kid with the Trick Shot for the win!
Winner- Trick Williams
Grade: C+
Fun pre-show match. Kid is an exciting high flyer whose style meshes all too well with Williams style.
Main Card
WWE Women’s Tag Team titles match | Brie Bella and Paige (c) vs. Fatal Influence
As the bell rings, Henley charges at Brie. Brie dumps Henley out of the ring. Reid attacks from behind but is quickly stopped. Paige and Brie double team Henley. Henley and Reid catch Paige with a stungun/German suplex combo. Paige kicks out. Fatal Influence takes turns working over Paige. Paige manages to tag in Brie. Brie clears the ring. Missile dropkick by Brie to Henley. Henley kicks out. Brie locks Henley in the LeBell Lock.

Brie has to break after Henley gets to the ropes. Jacy Jayne gets in Paige’s face. Paige decks Jayne. Paige eats a sliding German. Reid tries a moonsault, but Paige pulls Brie out of the way. Reid runs into a superkick. Jayne distracts the referee while Henley lands an illegal clothesline. After a series of roll ups, Paige rolls up Reid. Jayne pushes the pile over so Reid is on top. Reid grabs a handful of tights and gets a three-count.
Winners and NEW WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, Fatal Influence!
Grade: B-
Solid opener, and the right team won this. Hopefully, this leads to the end of the awkward Bella/Paige team and the rise of Fatal Influence as a whole.
No Disqualification Match | Danhausen vs. JD McDonagh w/Dominik Mysterio
Danhausen drives out on the stage, and the cloning machine is waiting for him. Danhausen has on Knicks colors, and there is a Danhausen blimp flying around the arena. As the bell rings, Danhausen starts to curse McDonagh. McDonagh rolls out of the ring. After a distraction from Dominik Mysterio, McDonagh attacks from behind. McDonagh slams Danhausen’s head into the commentary desk repeatedly. McDonagh puts a whipping on Danhausen. Dominik wipes his sneaker with Danhausen’s custom Knicks jersey.
Danhausen fires up and lands a flurry. McDonagh cuts Danhausen off with a brainbuster. Danhausen somehow kicks out. Dominik hands McDonagh Danhausen’s Knicks jersey. McDonagh wipes his butt with it and lays it on Danhausen’s chest. McDonagh misses a moonsault. Danhausen puts on the jersey, turns into Superman, and takes out McDonagh and Dominik. McDonagh tries a suplex, but Danhausen turns it into a cutter. Dominik and McDonagh jump Danhausen. McDonagh rips the jersey off of Danhausen.
The Finish
Dominik and McDonagh try to pull a table from under the ring, but there is a Mini-Hausen on it. The Mini-Hausen’s jump Dominik and McDonagh. Danhausen puts the Knicks jersey and a cat in the cloning machine. McDonagh and Dominik beat up the Mini-Hausens. The cloning machine lights up and Karl Anthony-Towns walks out of the machine… you know… because Danhausen put a cat and a Knicks jersey in the machine… GET IT???? Anyway, Danhausen curses the Judgment Day and Towns chokeslams McDonagh. Dominik gets chokeslammed through a table. Danhausen lands the Danhausen Death Drop for the win.
Winner- Danhausen
Grade: … I… I just…
This was… either the greatest thing ever I’ve ever seen or the worst thing I’ve ever seen. This writer has yet to decide which.
Bayley vs. Lyra Valkyria
Bayley and Valkyria trade shots. The fight spills out of the ring. An elbow from Bayley buts Valkyria’s nose. The referee pulls Bayley back to check on Valkyria. Valkyria pushes the referee away and attacks Bayley. Bayley sends Valkyria into the corner. Valkyria tumbles over the top rope. Bayley lands a dive. Valkyria kicks out. Valkyria works over Bayley. Bayley fires up. Valkyria kicks out of a roll up from Bayley.

Bayley transitions into a Boston Crab. Valkyria breaks the hold. Bayley goes up top. Valkyria drops Bayley with a neckbreaker on the top turnbuckle. Bayley ends up hung up in the ropes. Valkyria blasts Bayley with a leg drop. Bayley kicks out. Bayley catches Valkyria with a suplex. Crossface by Bayley. Valkyria breaks the hold by driving Bayley into the top rope, throat-first. Valkyria suplexes Bayley into a Bully Choke. Bayley passes out.
Winner- Lyra Valkyria
After the match, Valkyria kicks Bayley’s lifeless body out of the ring. Valkyria sends Bayley into the ring post and locks in another Bully Choke. Referees break it up. Valkyria drops Bayley on the ring steps with a vicious Nightwing.
Grade: B
This match was fantastic. The accidentally busted nose added a sense of realism to this one that most matches don’t have. The Women’s division may have its first blood feud in a long time. The inevitable submission match is going to feed families.
Undisputed WWE Champion CM Punk and Cody Rhodes vs. Gunther and Sami Zayn
While Zayn is making his entrance, he takes a swing at Punk. Punk and Zayn brawl. Rhodes and Gunther follow suit. Gunther and Punk fight outside the ring. Gunther suplexes Punk on the barricade. Punk falls into the timekeeper’s area. Rhodes helps Punk back into the ring. Zayn works over Punk. Punk manages a crossbody off the top. Punk manages to tag in Rhodes. Rhodes clears the ring. Gunther eats a Cody Cutter. Rhodes takes out Zayn with a dive. Gunther gets to his feet and walks into a super Cody Cutter. Kick out by Gunther. Gunther tags in Zayn. After a series of counters, Zayn lands a blue thunder bomb. Rhodes kicks out.

Rhodes tags in Punk. Punk lands a diving elbow for a nearfall. Anaconda Vice by Punk. Gunther tries to powerbomb Rhodes, but Rhodes flips out of it and locks Gunther in a Figure Four! Gunther rakes Punk’s eyes to break the Vice on Zayn. Everyone hits their finish. After Punk hits the GTS on Gunther, everyone is down! Gunther sends Punk into Rhodes, knocking him off the apron. Punk falls into a Rear-Naked Choke from Gunther. A Bleeding Punk manages to tag in Rhodes, who nails Gunther with Crossroads! Zayn pushes Punk into the referee, breaking up the pin.
The Finish
Punk drops Zayn with a GTS. Punk holds Gunther while Rhodes tries a disaster kick. Gunther moves, and Rhodes crashes into Punk. Gunther hits Rhodes with the championship and hits a powerbomb! Another referee runs down to ringside. As the referee counts, SmackDown GM Nick Aldis appears and pulls the referee out of the ring! Gunther tries to grab Aldis, but Aldis whacks Gunther in the head with the championship! Punk blasts Gunther with a GTS! Punk drags Rhodes on top of Gunther. Aldis tosses the referee back into the ring to make the count.
Winners- CM Punk and Cody Rhodes
After the match, Rhodes hands Punk the championship. Punk, “accidentally” hits Rhodes in the face with one of the belt straps. Punk walks off. Rhodes is visibly annoyed.
Grade: A
This was an exceptional pro wrestling match. These four guys didn’t stop. There were a few lulls in the action here as everyone had their working boots on. This match built to an electric crescendo. So many razor-thin near-falls kept this writer on the edge of his seat the entire time. Aldis’ spawning at ringside was telegraphed a mile away, but it was so well done that we can overlook the obviousness of the finish here.
The King of New York
World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns gifts Jalen Brunson a custom WWE Champion Championship. Reigns tells the crowd to acknowledge them. Seth Rollins‘ music hits. The Indiana Pacers’ Tyrese Haliburton appears on the stage with a chair. Seth Rollins attacks Reigns from behind. Rollins sets up a stomp on a chair. Brunson stands in the way. Reigns surprises Rollins with a Superman Punch. Spear by Reigns! Haliburton and Rollins slink away. Brunson and Reigns celebrate in the ring with the Larry O’Brien trophy.
Grade: C+
This one was a bit on the long side. Reigns didn’t have to cut a five-minute promo to get to the showdown with Rollins. Brunson, standing in the ring mute the entire time, was extremely awkward, but in retrospect, that was probably for the best. I’d be remise if I didn’t point out that one thing that would have made this MSG show for me was a Tyrese Haliburton run-in during the Brunson segment, and what won’t god do?
WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event Review:
Tonight’s show was one of the better SNME efforts since WWE resurrected the concept a few years back. It was clear from the opening match that every superstar polished up their working boots to put on a phenomenal professional wrestling show. Beyond the solid in ring graps (specifically the main event and the Valkyria/Bayley bout), this show also had just enough absurd ha-ha to placate those who are into that sort of thing.
This writer still has no idea how to feel about the Danhausen/JD McDonagh match, but that’s what makes it great: the simple fact that I have feelings towards it at all. Despite the silliness, it had a solid story heading into it, and McDonagh put a serious beating on Danhaunen, leading up to one of the most ridiculous things this writer has ever seen. It’s a Knicks jersey… and a cat… Get it??? All in all, this was a great show.
