MJF Explains Why He Missed AEW Meet And Greet, Confirms Wellness Check

MJF discusses the infamous meet and greet he no-showed the weekend of AEW Double or Nothing 2022.

The Dynamite Diamond Ring winner sparked plenty of controversy when he didn’t show up at the meet and greet. Subsequent reports suggested that a plane ticket out of town had been booked for him, though he showed up at the pay-per-view the following day.

Speaking with Sam Roberts on Notsam Wrestling, MJF commented on the incident and stated that his boss, Tony Khan, was being a “f—— mark”, and he wasn’t getting paid what he was worth. He stated that he came back once Khan paid him, and they’re “best friends” now. MJF also recalled how a security guard tried to break his door down when AEW did a wellness check on him after he no-showed the meet and greet.

“This is fantastic, a story I can tell, a new story I can tell,” MJF said. “So my company lost $10,000 that day, and I say my company because right now they are employing me, for the time being. I did not go because my boss at the time was being a f— mark, so if you don’t want to pay me what I’m worth, daddy does not show up to work. It’s that simple. Daddy got the money, daddy’s back. Now me and Tony Khan are best friends. Tony Khan, great guy, great guy. When I stayed in said hotel room, they did a wellness check on me.

“The AEW security, this is a very true story, tried to break my door down. Now at the time, I had already left. It’s real. They did the check. His name’s Sam, He’s a part of what was atlas security, I believe they have a different name now. He literally went to kick my door down on a wellness check.”

Roberts asked whether MJF is a “drug guy”, which could cause the company to call for the wellness check, and he stated that he’s not, but that was likely the concern. He stated that he was just trying to get what he felt he deserved. “The Salt of the Earth” made it clear that he’s happy now because he’s even more rich.

“No, but I think that was everybody’s fear, right. Is this MJF’s Brian Pillman moment?” MJF said. “You know what I mean? No, it was MJF trying to make what he deserved to be making based on the numbers I bring in when I am on-screen. I’ve understood that there were some people that were really let down or offended, and what I say to you is, I don’t care. Get over it. I’m happy now, and if you’re a fan of me, then you should be happy too because I’m stupid, I was rich before, but now I am so rich.

“I don’t even know what to do with the amount. I honestly thought about taking some of my money out of the bank in cash and just converting it into rolls of toilet paper, and just wiping my ass with it because I don’t even know what to do with it all at this point. It’s overwhelming. I’m honestly a little scared because I could buy something, which is a problem. I like to spend money on dumb things. Can’t confirm or deny the plane ticket

MJF then stated that everything is cool now because he has been paid what he’s worth. When asked, he did not confirm or deny the report that a plane ticket out of Las Vegas was bought for him the weekend of the pay-per-view.

“If you want the fans to see and experience me on any level, pay me what I’m worth, and he did. Now we’re cool. We’re squared away. I will not comment on the plane. I cannot confirm or deny whether a plane ticket was bought.”

MJF returned to AEW at the All Out pay-per-view and won the Casino Ladder Match. In doing so, he earned a shot at the AEW World Championship.
