Willie Mack Discusses His Departure From IMPACT Wrestling, His Goals For The Future

Willie Mack comments on his departure from IMPACT Wrestling.

Mack made his IMPACT debut in 2018, and he worked for the company until he announced his exit in May 2022. Since then, the former IMPACT X-Division Champion has been active on the independent scene, and he has also competed for Major League Wrestling, among other promotions.

In an interview with Denise Salcedo, Mack discussed his decision to leave IMPACT and noted that it came down to the money. He stated that he enjoys having the freedom to control his schedule as a free agent.

“First and foremost, it was a money thing because they promised one thing, and I said, you know what, I’m not accepting that,” Mack said. “So I went back to where I started on the independents, even though it’s a tough grind, at least I’m having fun and getting to travel and meeting people that I ain’t seen in years. It’s good to be able do your own thing, like I could pick up the phone and at, oh, I could be there Monday. No I can’t do that, I’m already booked here, and stuff like that. It feels great.”

When asked whether he felt “bummed out” about leaving IMPACT, Mack expressed how it was hard to leave his friends, but he felt compelled to do his own thing. As for a potential return, he stated that it could be a possibility if anything changes.

“Well of course I felt bummed out because a bunch of my friends knew what I was gonna do, and they said, ‘Nah, stay.’ I’m like, ‘Nah, I gotta do this on my own, I’m just proving a point,'” Mack said. “I see them every now and again, but hopefully if anything changes in the future, I might be back. But who knows? It’s wrestling.”

Mack also discussed his goals in wrestling and emphasized his intent to compete all over the place and be on television as much as he can.

“Short-term, just try to get as many places as I can because I remember at one point, I was on IMPACT television, Ring of Honor, and NWA TV all at the same time,” Mack said. “Like somebody literally turned on the TV and saw me on every week, just on all three. So I wanna try to do that again.”

Mack competed at AAA Triplemania XXX: CDMX on October 15; he wrestled in a four-way #1 Contender’s Match for the AAA World Tag Team Championship.
